[ London Times ]

This newspaper, most correctly known simply as The Times, began publication in 1785 and continues to this day.

The edition of March 16, 1839, carried the following "lost Newf" notice — the first reference I have ever seen to a yellow Newf!

A YELLOW NEWFOUNDLAND DOG LOST, from the neighborhood of the Regent's-park, with white ring round the neck, four white feet, and white tip to the tail. Any person bringing him to the Regalia public-house, Augustus-street, Park-village-east, shall receive a £1 REWARD. All persons are cautioned against purchasing such a dog, as the same is supposed to have been stolen. Legal proceedings will be taken against any one detaining the dog after this notice.
