This newspaper, most correctly known simply as The Times, began publication in 1785 and continues to this day.


The edition of June 4, 1839, carried the following "lost Newf" ad — black with white feet and throat.

TWO GUINEAS REWARD. — LOST, from the neighbourhood of Lewisham, early on Saturday morning, June 1, a large BLACK NEWFOUNDLAND DOG, with white feet and throat. Answers to the name of Bravo. The abover REWARD will be given to any person who may bring the dog to Mr. Turner, butcher, opposite the church, Lewisham.

This ad is repeated almost verbatim two days later, June 6, 1839, with the only changes being "deliver" substituted for "bring" and "opposite to the Church" substituted for "opposite the church."
