This newspaper, most correctly known simply as The Times, began publication in 1785 and continues to this day.
The edition of August 25, 1842, contained the following "for sale" notice — black-and-white coat:
NEWFOUNDLAND DOG, one of the largest and finest in England, colour black and white, an out and out water and an excellent watch dog. . . . to be SOLD very cheap. . . . Apply at Mr. Chesterman's, 31, North-street, Manchester-square.
