This newspaper, most correctly known simply as The Times, began publication in 1785 and continues to this day.
The edition of August 8, 1844, contained a "Newf for sale" notice — black coat:
DOGS. — For SALE, a very splendid BLACK NEWFOUNDLAND DOG, 10 months old; a gigantic Mount St. Bernard Bitch, supposed to be the largest in England; a very formidable Spanish Wolf Bitch, invaluable as a yard dog or for a gamekeeper. . . . To be seen at Victoria Cottage, near the Swan Tavern, Bayswater, a little way from Victoria-gate, Hyde-park.
