[ London Times ]
This newspaper, most correctly known simply as The Times, began publication in 1785 and continues to this day.
The edition of June 23, 1845, carried the following "lost Newf" notice — black coat, some white markings. And an eye-popping reward, certainly the largest I have encountered in my research — five to ten times the customary reward at this time.
DOG LOST. — TEN POUNDS REWARD. — A large BLACK NEWFOUNDLAD DOG, whith white chest and toes, 18 months old, answering to the name of "Nep," was LOST last Friday week in Kensington. The above reward will be given to any one who will bring the same to Mr. Droust, butcher, Kensington-common.
