This newspaper, most correctly known simply as The Times, began publication in 1785 and continues to this day.


The edition of October 9, 1846, carried two advertisements regarding Newfoundlands: one, a "found Newf" ad, and the other a "Newf for sale" ad. Both dogs are reported as having black coats:

FOUND, a large BLACK DOG, of the Newfoundland breed. If not owned within 14 days from this date will be sold to pay the expenses. Apply at the Cock and Crown, St. Andrew's-hill, Doctors' commons..
