[ London Times ]
This newspaper, most correctly known simply as The Times, began publication in 1785 and continues to this day.
The edition of January 25, 1848, carried a "found" notice for a "Newfoundland retriever," no color information — perhaps an indication of how breed identities were still a bit in flux.
FOUND, a NEWFOUNDLAND RETRIEVER. The owner may recover the same by giving the description of it, and paying all expenses. Apply to Mr. May, 14, Norris-street, Haymarket. If not claimed within four days from this date, it will be sold to pay expenses.
