This newspaper, most correctly known simply as The Times, began publication in 1785 and continues to this day.
The August 23, 1805 edition of The Times carried the following brief notice of a Newfoundland discovering a submerged body:
On Wednesday morning, the body of a very genteel dressed female, with two wedding rings on, and money in her pockets, apparently about thirty years of age, handsome and fair, and with every appearance of a lady that had walked out to take the air in her morning dress, was found in the New River int he following manner: – Two young lads having taken out a Newfoundland dog for exercise, and thrown in a stone for him to dive after, he brought up the body of the person we have described; the boys called for assistance from the passengers, which was soon afforded, and the body being found beyond all hope of re-animation, was taken to St. James's, Clerkenwell, where it lays to be owned.
