This newspaper, most correctly known simply as The Times, began publication in 1785 and continues to this day.
On May 6, 1864, The Times carried a brief note regarding a recent shipwreck off the island of Sanday, one of the Orkney Islands north of Scotland.
LIFE SAVED BY A DOG. — At the late wreck at Sanday a Newfoundland dog belonging to the vessel, seeing a poor fellow struggling among the breakers, leaped into the sea, and having seized in hismouth the upper part of the man's jacket bore his head up, and swam ashore with him. — Orcadian.
(The Orcadian is a newspaper published in the Orkney Islands, Scotland. Begun in 1854, it still publishes today.)
