[ London Times ]

This newspaper, most correctly known simply as The Times, began publication in 1785 and continues to this day.

The November 19, 1866 edition of The Times carried a lengthy article about flooding in northern England, and remarked on an incident of a Newfoundland rescuing a man from floodwaters:

Three men were riding over the Saville bridge on a waggon laden with iron, when the current swept the horse off its feet, overturned the cart, and the poor fellows upon it narrowly escaped with their lives. One of them was fetched out of the water, after an immersion of six hours, by a Newfoundland dog; another of the men was rescued in a state of insensibility, and his ultimate recovery is very doubtful.
