This newspaper, most correctly known simply as The Times, began publication in 1785 and continues to this day.
The March 21, 1814 edition of The Times carried the following "lost Newfoundland" notice – one of the earlier mentions of grey in connection with Newfoundland coat color:
Lost from the neighbourhood of Whitechapel, a large Newfoundland dog (colour black inclining to gray), answers to Lion. ONE GUINEA REWARD will be given on bringing him to Mr Sheffield, butcher, Aldgate.
