This newspaper, most correctly known simply as The Times, began publication in 1785 and continues to this day.
The March 9, 1815 edition of The Times carried a "for sale" notice which included, among other animals,
... a very handsome Black and White Newfoundland Dog (has saved one person from drowning), is very gentle, yet fierce at night....
The asking price for the dog, 10 guineas (see image below), is roughly equivalent to $1175 US in 2024.
