[ London Times ]

This newspaper, most correctly known simply as The Times, began publication in 1785 and continues to this day.

The July 12, 1815 edition of The Times carried the following "found dog" notice, interesting for its remarks on the Newfoundland's coloration:

Found, a NEWFOUNDLAND DOG, black head, brown eye brows, black patch upon his near shoulder, black patch on his tail, and a wound on his off hind foot; if not owned in 14 days from this date, July 12, 1815, will be sold, to pay the expenses. To be seen at Mr. G. Taylor's, High-bridge, Upper Clapton, Middlesex.
