This newspaper, most correctly known simply as The Times, began publication in 1785 and continues to this day.


The June 13, 1822 edition of The Times carried the following "lost Newf" notice, with remarks identifying the dog as a Landseer:


A LARGE NEWFOUNDLAND DOG LOST, in the Haymarket, on Tuesday evening last, the 11th instant; he has a black head and ears, a large black spot on his back, and another at the root of his tail; in every other respect he is completely white; his tail is very large. Whoever will bring him to 16, Roll's-buildings, Fetter-lane, shall receive ONE GUINEA REWARD.
