This newspaper, most correctly known simply as The Times, began publication in 1785 and continues to this day.
The November 24, 1785 edition of The Times carried the following brief news item from Dublin, dated Nov. 18:
Wednesday evening the house of Mr. Murphy, near the Seven Churches, was invested by a gang of fourteen to fifteen fellows; but the family being alarmed by the uncommon barking of a large Newfoundland dog, they had time to prepare, and opening the windows on the second story, gave the villains so warm a reception with three muskets and a blunderbuss, that they decamped in great haste, but not without leaving some of their blood in the court-yard.
