[ London Times ]
This newspaper, most correctly known simply as The Times, began publication in 1785 and continues to this day.
The February 2, 1827 edition of The Times carried the following story of what appear to be sheep-slaughtering Newfoundlands: information.
Several sheep farmers in southern England found their flocks decimated by dogs: in one case, a flock of 25 sheep (17 of them pregnant) all but one, while another nearby flock lost five:
The dogs having been ascertained to belong to Mrs. Every and Mrs. Bowditch, of Holway, they readily consented to have them immediately killed, which was done accordingly. They were of the rough Newfoundland breed.
