This newspaper, most correctly known simply as The Times, began publication in 1785 and continues to this day.
The March 17, 1787 edition of The Times carried the following "found dog" notice regarding a Newfoundland with some brown coloring:
A large Newfoundland dog found, the 7th of March, with cropt ears, brown head, and brown upon the loins, with a bush tail. Whoever owns the same within a few days, on paying for this advertisement, and keeping, may have him again; but if not owned as abovementioned, will be sold. Enquire at No. 14, Grosvenor-Street, Millbank, Westminster.
