This newspaper, most correctly known simply as The Times, began publication in 1785 and continues to this day.


The edition of March 29, 1836 carried the following "strayed Newfoundland" notice for a Landseer Newf:


STRAYED, a large NEWFOUNDLAND DOG, on Thursday last, from the owner, at Forest-hill, Sydenham. Colour mostly white, crown of the head black, with a remarkable white triangular spot in the centre, white legs and feet, and white bushy tail, a black spot or two about the body; answers to the name of Neptune. Whoever delivers this dog to Mr. Wren, grocer, Sydenham-common, shall receive ONE GUINEA REWARD.
