The New York Times is an American daily newspaper which began publishing in 1851 and continues to this day. It has won more Pulitzer Prizes than any other newspaper, and has the 3rd-largest circulation in the United States.
The July 25, 1884, issue had another tragic account of a rabid Newf:
I have included several other reports of rabid Newfoundlands from the New York Times in the later decades of the 19th Centur, but have skipped over many others — there are a lot of such unfortunate stories, so widespread was rabies before the development of vaccines — but of course it affected dogs of all breeds and mixed breeds, and including every report of a rabid Newf would clutter this list unnecessarily.
