This volume, first published by Harper and Brothers in New York in 1839, is to a large extent a reprinting of an earlier volume, The Menageries: Quadrupeds Described and Drawn from Living Subjects, written by James Rennie and published in London (Charles Knight) in 1829 for the British Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge.
As far as Newfoundlands are concerned, this volume reprints most but not all of the Newf anecdotes in The Menageries. Since that information is reprinted verbatim, it is not reproduced here. Go to The Menageries page here at The Cultured Newf to read those anecdotes.
