Seaman

Tom Neary

These statues of Seaman and other figures from the Corp of Discovery Expedition are located at the Fort Mandan State Historic Site and at the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center in Washburn, North Dakota. The fort is a re-creation of the fort where the Lewis and Clark expedition spent the winter of 1804 - 1805.

Tom Neary is a sculptor living in Washburn, North Dakota; you can see additional photos of Seaman, including during his construction and installation, at Tom Neary's website.

There is also another statue of Seaman, closer to life-size, inside the Fort Mandan site:

This large statue is located at the nearby Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. From what I can determine, the statue of Seaman was originally installed at the Fort Mandan Historic Site a couple of miles from the Center, then because of flooding there was temporarily moved (in 2011) to this group of human figures (Lewis, Clark, and a local Native chief, Sheheke-Shote), at the Interpretive Center. Seaman was at some point moved back to Fort Mandan Historic Site, where he now sits (as shown in the photo at the top of this page) on a spot known as Seaman's Overlook:
