William Shayer Sr. (1787 - 1879) was an English painter known primarily for his landscape and country life scenes, although he also worked as a carriage and sign painter in his early years. He is not to be confused with his son, the painter William Joseph Shayer (who is also represented here at The Cultured Newf).
Although this painting is signed "W Shayer," it is believed to be by one of his assistants.
