[ Killilea/ With Love From Karen ]
Marie Killilea (1913 - 1991) was an American author best known for her two books dealing with her daughter Karen's cerebral palsy.
This book is the sequel to Kililea's Karen (1952); both works present the account of the author's daughter and her struggle with cerebral palsy. Part of Karen's recovery involved training dogs, and her favorite breed was the Newfoundland.
Surely inspired by Karen's love of the breed, Marie Killilea also authored the posthumously-published children's book Newf.
Karen Killilea passed away on October 30, 2020, at the age of 80. Her passing, and her contribution to the breed, was noted in "Remembering Karen Killilea" published in the 50th Anniversary issue (First Quarter, 2021) of Newf Tide. Her obituary in the New York Times (18 December 2020) pictured her with her Newfoundland, Perry, and specifically mentioned her love of the breed.
