[ Woolf / Between the Acts ]

Virginia Woolf (1882 - 1941) was an English novelist and essayist, widely regarded as one of the most important 20th Century English writers.

No actual Newfoundland in this novel, Woolf's last, which is set just before the outbreak of WWII and concerned with history and change as encountered in a small English village, but there is a picture of one, as follows:

Dodge crossed to the fireplace and looked at the Newfoundland Dog in the Christmas Annual that was pinned to the wall. The room smelt warm and sweet; of clothes drying; of milk; of biscuits and warm water. "Good Friends" the picture was called.
