The English Farmyard (1863)
by
John Frederick Herring, Jr.
Herring Jr.(1820 - 1907) was an English painter known for his depictions of farm life and country sport; he was the son of J. F. Herring Sr., who achieved particular notoriety for his portraits of racehorses, which his son often imitated.
The black-and-white dog in this painting could perhaps be a Newfoundland.
