Spirit of Discovery
by
Pat Kennedy
American sculptor Pat Kennedy created this bronze statue of Lewis, Clark, and Seaman in 2003. There are two extant copies of this work, per an email to me (13 Sept 2018) from Mr. Kennedy: one in the Sioux City Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center in Sioux City, Iowa, USA, and another (from 2004) on the Missouri riverfront in St Charles, Missouri, USA, near the Lewis and Clark Boat House and Museum. (You can see a slideshow of the artist's creation process here.) The dog, he explained, was modeled from photos, not from the life. (I have read that there is a third copy of this statue, but I cannot confirm that.)
