A Mastiff, a Pomeranian, a Newfoundland and a Spaniel by a dark brown and a gray hunter in the grounds of Clopton House, Warwickshire (1838)
by
William Nedham
Nedham (flourished 1823 - 1849) was an English painter who studied under John Ferneley, Sr., the noted horse and hunting painter. This large oil painting (54 x 93 in.) was commissioned by Charles Thomas Warde, the owner of Clopton House and of the animals pictured here. Notably, the dogs are in the foreground; it would have been much more conventional for the horses to be portrayed more prominently in such paintings.
