Portrait of Two Boys with their Newfoundland Dog (date unknown)
(oil on canvas)
by
Ramsay Richard Reingale

Reinagle (1775 - 1862) was a noted English painter and the son of Philip Reinagle, a well-regarded painter and illustrator who also has a work discussed here at The Cultured Newf.

Ramsay Reinagle first exhibited at the Royal Academy at age 13, and for some time was popular as a painter of portraits, landscapes, and sporting subjects. He was highly skilled as a copyist as well. His reputation was irreparably damaged when he exhibited, at the Royal Academy, another painter's work, with only minor tweaks, as his own; when the deception was discovered, Reinagle was forced to resign from the Royal Academy.

This painting was created as a private commission, probably between 1800 and 1830.
