This Newfoundland statue watches over the grave of Florence Rees, who died at the age of two and is buried in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia.

This statue is one of an unknown number of castings of this Newf by the Barlett-Hayward Company, a Baltimore-based metalworking firm founded in the 1830s and active until 1980. Seven of these statues are known to still exist.

For the full story of this grave-guarding Newf, check out this article at the website of WRIC, an ABC affiliate TV station in Richmond, Virginia.

Another grave-guarding Newf stands in a cemetery in Dayton, Ohio; you can find his story here at The Cultured Newf.
