Newfoundlands (1919)
by
Louis Agassiz Fuertes
Fuertes (1874 - 1927) was an American ornithologist and illustrator, one of the most well-known and respected illustrators of his time, sometimes compared to John James Audubon as regards his bird paintings.
The above image is a painting made by Fuertes for The Book of Dogs, a 1919 book co-authord by Fuertes, the American naturalist Ernest Harold Baynes (1868 - 1925), and others. That work of non-fiction, which has over 70 illustrations by Fuertes, is discussed here at The Cultured Newf.
